Durafin SFP
What is Durafin SFP®?
United Surface Finishing’s proprietary DuraFin SFP® hard chrome plating process maximizes plating efficiency and delivers consistent chromium thicknesses with a precise conforming anode-to-cathode ratio imperative. This is accomplished by through rigorous quality control procedures and unparalleled attention to detail that does not alter the dimensions or mechanical properties of the substrate to any appreciable extent.
Chromium deposits from the DuraFin SFP® process have proven to be harder, smoother, brighter, and more durable than either conventional or mixed-catalyst processes with less part-to-part variability. More importantly, DuraFin SFP® hard chrome plating significantly outperforms both conventional and mixed catalyst procedures in regards to wear properties and corrosion protection. Simply put, DuraFin SFP® has proven to be a superior chromium plating method in every way. See the data here.
Substrates for Durafin SFP®
Durafin SFP® can be applied to any base metal. Typical applications include:

Benefits of our DuraFin SFP®
Following are the benefits of using the DuraFin SFP®:
- Surface hardness of approximately 70 Rockwell C
- Creates a micro-crack structure which enhances corrosion resistance
- Friction and wear are reduced with improved lubricant retention
- Bond strength exceeds 125,000 psi and will pass a severe bend test
- Coating can be easily stripped with conventional methods
- 95% fatigue limit reduction over conventional hard chrome
- 93% reduction in deposit internal stress
- Eliminates build-up and nodulization on sharp corners and edges

Advantages
Durafin SFP® offers a number of advantages over standard hard chrome.
- Does Not Alter Substrate Dimensions
- Harder (approximately 1075 Vickers or 70 Rockwell C)
- Enhanced Wear Resistance
- Greater Corrosion Protection
- Brighter Finish
These extra qualities make Durafin SFP® ideally suited for use with hydraulic rams. If the hydraulic ram operates in dirty or hostile environments, this hard chrome process inhibits dirt from lodging in seals maintaining the integrity of the ram.
Durafin SFP® eliminates secondary steps such as grinding and polishing. It can also be used when a standard chrome is specified for your substrate.
